Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, also known as OCD, is a mental health disorder that is characterized by Obsessions and/or Compulsions. Obsessions are defined as repetitive, intrusive, and unwelcome thoughts, images, impulses, or doubts that cause anxiety or distress. Compulsions are defined as repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to perform in order to relieve the anxiety or distress caused by the Obsessions. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder typically begins in childhood or adolescence but can develop in adulthood.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 1 in 100 adults in the United States suffer from OCD. This means that there are about 3.3 million people in the US who struggle with this condition.
